The Archaeological Museum of Tegea begins its journey in the Mediterranean…

10.5.-18.5.2020

The Ephorate of Antiquities of Arkadia, in collaboration with the Social and Cultural Affairs Welfare Foundation (KIKPE, www.kikpe.gr), participates in the International Museum Day 2020 with a video with english subtitles for the planned periodical exhibition “Memory and Impression. An itinerary through the Peloponnese in the company of ancient coins”. The exhibition, which will be hosted at the Archaeological Museum of Tegea, is a reflection on memory and collective memory, myth and oral narration.

A guide to this fascinating journey of initiation into the social memory of the past are fifty-six (56) ancient silver and bronze coins and a 19th century medal, which meet and sometimes converse with the Museum’s permanent exhibits. Most of the coins are presented for the first time in the Greek and international space and come from the KIKPE Numismatic Collection. A parallel photographic exhibition, co-organized by the Michail N. Stassinopoulos – Viohalco Public Benefit Foundation and KIKPE, will welcome the visitor to the second large exhibition station of the story entitled “Memory and Impression” (Building B of the Michail N. Stassinopoulos – Viohalco Public Benefit Foundation (http://www.msvf.gr/).

This journey, in which memories, imagination and reality are intertwined, begins in Tegea, stations in various parts of the Mediterranean basin – such as the Peloponnese, Thessaly, Asia Minor and Italy – and ends in Arkadia, not as an existing place, but as an imaginary landscape, as an ideal destination of mind and soul.
