On the occasion of International Museum Day 2020, the Directorate of Conservation of Ancient and Modern Monuments- Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports  presenting for the first time the documentary “Theophilos gallery: conservation to the core”,
Filmed by conservators, the documentary highlights the adventures of a set of frescoes by famous 20th century Greek folk painter, Theophilos Hadjimihail, and outlines the stages of conservation and restoration. We follow their journey from the walls of the Zolkos residence on Lesvos island, to an art exhibition in Athens in 1970, their previous transformation into framed paintings, their purchase by the Ministry of Culture and their installation at a new home, the Museum of Greek Folk Art in Plaka.

In 2016, the Directorate of Conservation of Ancient and Modern Monuments undertook the project of their conservation.
The conservators who took on this difficult task share with us the secrets of their work at every stage. The project was recently completed and the frescoes will soon be exhibited in a specially designed gallery at the Museum of Modern Greek Culture in Athens.
